Sleeping Beauty is an animated fantasy film. Released in 1959 this American movie was produced by Walt Disney. It was built upon the fairy tale “La Belle au bois dormant” by Charles Perrault. It was released to theatres on January 29, 1959 by Buena Vista Distribution. Its initial box office disappointment made this the last fairy tale film which Disney produced; the studio did not considered making another animated film in the genre until the release of The Little Mermaid (1989).

Les Clark, Eric Larson, and Wolfgang Reitherman directed the animated film under the supervision of Clyde Geronimi. Additional writings were provided by Joe Rinaldi, Winston Hibler, Bill Peet, Ted Sears, Ralph Wright, and Milt Banta. The film’s soundtrack featured the work of the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, includes arrangements from the Sleeping Beauty (1980) ballet by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.

Sleeping Beauty was the first animation to be created with the Technirama widescreen process.
